 Step-by-Step PU Roller Recoating Process

Our in-house engineering and recoating facility follows a strict, multi-stage process to guarantee precision, performance, and durability in every roller.

 

1  Initial Inspection & Assessment

Every roller undergoes a detailed visual and dimensional inspection to identify:

  • Surface wear, cracks, or pitting
  • Core material condition (steel, aluminum, stainless, or composite)
  • Old bonding failure points
  • Concentricity and balance accuracy

If the metal core is structurally sound, recoating is recommended. Severely damaged cores can also be repaired or replaced in-house.

 

2  Stripping the Old Polyurethane Layer

The worn polyurethane layer is mechanically stripped or chemically dissolved from the roller surface.
This ensures the core metal is fully exposed and free from contaminants, adhesives, or residual polymers.

This stage is crucial — improper stripping can affect new coating adhesion and final roller performance.

 

3  Core Surface Preparation

The roller core is cleaned, degreased, and sandblasted to create a rough bonding surface.
This step enhances mechanical grip and ensures maximum adhesion between the core and the new polyurethane.

4  Polyurethane Casting or Molding

A new layer of premium-grade polyurethane elastomer is applied using either:

  • Centrifugal casting,
  • Compression molding, or
  • Rotational casting (depending on roller type and diameter).

Our PU materials can be customized between Shore A 60 – Shore A 95 hardness, with optional anti-static, oil-resistant, or high-temperature grades for specific industry needs.

 

5  Heat Curing Process

After casting, the roller is oven-cured at controlled temperature and humidity to achieve:

  • Full polymer cross-linking
  • Optimum hardness and elasticity
  • Long-term chemical and abrasion resistance

This stage ensures the PU layer becomes chemically bonded and dimensionally stable, maintaining its properties even in high-load, high-speed applications.

 

6  Precision Machining & Grinding

Once cured, each roller is machined on precision lathes or CNC grinders to achieve:
